We are The Tree House. Founded by Ali Reza Dossal and Mariyam Iftikar, we are an architecture and design firm based in Karachi, Pakistan. We design with a people centered approach, thriving in the iterative process of design crafting the experience of our work.
We find inspiration in innovative and sustainable projects which are rooted in their context. Light, breeze, the physical and metaphysical context greatly inform the process of our work.
We have been working in the field of design since 2010 and have experience in Pakistan, Sweden, London and Sri Lanka in a professional and academic capacity and have participated in various exhibitions both locally and internationally.
We began working together in 2010 and founded our architectural practice in 2015. Our studio focuses on design processes, we believe in coming together around a table to discuss ideas, drawing and building together with a collaborative spirit. We enjoy architecture and design as an amalgamation of art and functionality. Crafting spaces with great attention to detail and materiality while thriving to enhance the lives of the people that interact with our work. From the first discussions and sketches through brainstorms and construction completion, we are personally involved in every project our studio takes on.

Team
Ali Reza Dossal is an architect and design professional heading The Tree House Design Lab in Karachi, Pakistan along with his wife and partner. Ali developed artistic techniques of craft and hand drawings which led him to pursue a bachelor’s of architecture from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi (2009) and subsequently a Master’s of Arts degree at the Umeå School of Architecture in Sweden (2012-2014). His artistic and technical approach to small scale interventions and construction techniques was recognized by the School of Architecture and HUMlab (Dept. of Humanities, Umeå University) where he was invited to teach, collaborate and create interactive installations. Ali was the recipient of the 2014 Global Swede Award for excellence in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. Ali continues to push his creative drive through design interventions, exhibitions and collaborative endeavors.
Mariyam Iftikar Co-Founder
Born in Khewra, Mariyam Iftikar is an architect and maker based in Karachi, Pakistan. She pursued her architectural education in Karachi at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture graduating with honors in 2009. She worked for five years at Studio Tariq Hasan, a leading architecture firm in the city. After a stint working in Sri Lanka with Architect Varuna de Silva Mariyam along with her partner Ali Reza Dossal founded their design studio in 2015.
