Project Description

Composed of two main components, this mechanical lamp is a playful approach to a light fixture design which engages the user and the space that houses it.

Inspired by Jean Prouvé’s light jib, this lamp provides flexibility in use based on lighting requirements. The custom design allows the user to maneuver the light fixture and adjust the height and direction of the lamp.

The pulley system uses a worm gear winch to adjust the height of the lamp. The lamp shade is handcrafted with oak wood veneer that accentuates its wood texture when lit.

This element uses simple principles of physics; a pulley system mounted on a guide rail installed on a wall, with the pulley on the other end supporting a custom-fabricated swing-jib allowing it to slide along the guide rail.
